ABOUT EES:
Hello Everybody,
I am Andrew N. Fitzsimmons owner of Elephant Ear Studio. Where you will find Sculpture, Ceramic Vessels, Functional Ware, and other Fine Arts.  I unofficially established the Elephant Ear Studio (EES) name during my grad study in 1998, to represent myself and my work. I officially made EES a business in 2009. I formulated the studio name from my love of elephants, a potters sponge and my experience in Cote d'Ivoire West Africa, in the Summer of 1995. My experience in the Ivory Coast changed me as an artist, and human being...along with how I viewed the world. I will always be profoundly grateful with love and respect I have for the opportunity to study traditional life, sculpture and ceramics during the my time i spent traveling the Ivory Coast.
I am primarily an exhibition artist, but every couple of years I enter the craft fair circuit (on a small scale). I will save the "ALL IN" on showing & selling at the craft fairs until I retire from teaching 9-12 ART. You will find my functional ware to meet your kitchen, crochet & knitting needs.....and who doesn't need a solid coffee mug! I have a large amount of exhibition work that explores a variety of themes and forms, that will also be represented within my craft fair booth. I always include: my figurative sculpture, wall sculpture, large clay vessels, and pots. Along with what you see at the booth and on this website, I also do commissioned work...............................................................................Enjoy!...Cheers!

Currently (25 years) I teach ceramics and sculpture at Chenango Valley HS. I was an adjunct Instructor of ART at SUNY Broome in Binghamton, New York for 13 years. I received my BFA in Graphic Design, my MA in Ceramics/Sculpture and my MAT in Art Education from SUNY Oswego. I have lived in Owego NY since 2009, creating works for exhibitions, commissions and sales. My work is always evolving, experimenting and exploring ways to create a visual impact.
My work is cemented in a fundamental foundation of; technique, creative expression, exploration of shape and scale, and surface textures. My current work outside the classroom is centered around exploring the human form, sculpting figures and busts. With an emphasis on exploring themes that are represented within a series of works. My functional pottery is representative of simple utilitarian forms, while the exploring surface colors and how they interact within the shapes of the work.
