EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY:
As an educator, my goals are cemented in a traditional approach of understanding and mastering skill within the creation of artworks. I firmly believe in the process of creating art, and look to guide my students in finding their visual voice. I expect my students to be able to make art works that are structured around mastering technique and methods. Within a studio environment, students will develop a foundation of artistic techniques as well as an understanding of various materials and processes.
In addition, students will create works that explore different subject matter, topics, and themes. Through group and individual critiques, students will reflect, interpret, and evaluate art work using the language of art criticism. By exploring artifacts from different cultures and historical periods, students will discover how time and place influence visual characteristics of artwork as well as the effect of art on different societies.
